An All-Australian Seed Company
HSR Seeds are a fully Australian owned company.
We're also proud members of the Seed Industry Association of Australia.
Welcome to our web site! HSR Seeds have been pioneering research and development in Australian agriculture for generations. We're now one of Australia's leading companies for producing hybrid grain sorghum and forage sorghum, sunflower & maize seed.

HSR Seeds' principals were involved in the earliest trials conducted on hybrid seed in Queensland in the late 1950's. This means that a lifetime of hands-on farming experience and scientific knowledge goes into producing our seed products.

We're also a fully Australian-owned company working for Australian farmers - and you really can't get much more Australian than that!

Constant development means
the BEST for you!

HSR Seeds' down-to-earth research and development into new hybrid seeds ensures that our customers get the best seeds possible.

We carry out the majority of our research and trial work in our nursery (pictured) which is located at Durong in Queensland. Tests on more promising nursery varieties are then carried out at trial sites on properties throughout Australia's sorghum and grain belts.

Our staff are constantly monitoring plant breeding institutes worldwide to source quality genetic material which is used to develop new varieties.

This lengthy process begins with cross pollinating male and female flowers by hand to breed a new variety or hybrid sorghum. These new hybrids are then planted in small plots. If one variety shows particular potential, further trials are conducted on a much greater scale.

Plants are assessed for maturity, height, standability, grain colour, evenness, insect and disease resistance, yield, grain quality and many other factors. This painstaking process eventually produces superior new varieties which then go into commercial release for our customers. Read more about us..
